Wrathion

General Strat

  • The boss will be tanked in mid with raid stacked at his side. The raid needs to avoid being in front or behind the boss in order to avoid breath and tail swipes. Tanks need to be careful with pointing the boss away from the raid when running back from the lift off Burning Cataclysm ability.
  • In mythic, you will need to avoid moving unnecessarily. Every step you take, you get a stack of a 35s Slow debuff. If you reach 50 stacks you die. The fight has enough downtime between mechanics that you should have at least one full reset between the 2 lift off Burning Cataclysm periods. Your stacks will be deleted a few seconds into Burning Cataclysm.
  • During Burning Cataclysm you need to see where the boss teleports to and run to the other side of the platform where there is a safe spot without fire. The fire puddles grow so don’t be anywhere near the initial swirls.

  • When targeted with Incineration, step out of the raid to lessen how much damage you explode on us. In mythic don’t go too far as you need to be mindful of your Slow debuff.
  • Step out of the boss’ model when he stomps with Gale Blast.
  • Don’t stand in the Molten Eruption swirlies or leftover Molten Pools.
  • P2 - 0% Energy - 2 Burning Cataclysms



  • Several large Scales of Wrathion soak zones will spawn near the boss on transition. Mobile players need to soak these then run through the Crackling Shards to make them vulnerable to damage (Mythic only, they blow up in heroic when ran through).
  • Dps needs to nuke down the shards before P1 begins again. Try to not stand right next to them as they explode within 10 yards.
  • Ashwalker Assassins will be stealthed and following players in p2. If they reach them, the player will take a large damage nuke. Drop aoe on the shadowy circles that show where they are or protect yourself with an aoe attack/hunter flare if you see one coming.

Abilities

    Phase 1 - The Black Emperor

  • Searing Breath (tank) - Inflicts 392k Fire damage to all players in a cone in front of the caster and applies a stack of Searing Armor.
    • Searing Armor - Inflicts 29k Fire damage every 1s and increases the damage of Searing Breath by 80% for 20s, stacks.
  • Incineration - Ignites random targets, inflicting 73k Fire damage every 2s for 8s. Upon expiration, targets explode, inflicting 443k Fire damage to all players. Damage decreases the further targets are from the point of impact.
  • Gale Blast - Unleashes a gale blast, inflicting 443k Fire damage and knocking players back within 30 yards, as well as inflicting 221k Fire damage to all players outside of 30 yards. Afterwards, launches fire balls at random enemy destinations that inflict 368k Fire damage to enemies within 5 yards of impact.
  • Burning Cataclysm - Wrathion teleports to a random spot and spews fire, inflicting 49k Fire damage to enemies every 1s for 8s. Spawns scorching blisters.
    • Scorching Blister - Inflicts 165k Fire damage every 1s to enemies standing within them. They grow over 10s then explode dealing 589k Fire damage to enemies within 30 yards.
  • Molten Eruption - Unleashes a hail of fireballs, inflicting 165k Fire damage and knocking back players within 3 yards of the point of impact. Leaves behind a Molten Pool.
    • Molten Pool - Each Molten Pool transforms into a Crackling Shard when Wrathion’s energy reaches zero.
  • Tail Swipe - Inflicts 393k Physical damage to players in a cone behind him, knocking them back.
  • Creeping Madness (Mythic) - While under the effects of this madness, players gain stacks of Slow while they are moving for 2.3min. At 50 stacks of Slow, the player receives 298k Shadow damage every time they move. Slow lasts 35s.
  • Phase 2 - Smoke and Mirrors - 0% Energy

  • Scales of Wrathion - Scales fall from Wrathion. Catching a scale inflicts the player with Burning Madness. Any scales not caught inflict 344k Fire damage to all players.
    • Burning Madness (Mythic) - While under the effects of madness, any Crackling Shard you run over cancels Hardened Core and extends the duration of your Burning Madness. Each time this occurs, one stack of Burning Madness is removed.
  • Crackling Shard - Summoned from molten pols. Any shards still remaining at the end of Stage Two are turned into Lava Pools.
    • Hardened Core (Mythic) - the shard’s hardened core makes them immune to damage.
    • Pyroclastic Flow - When a shard is destroyed, it inflicts 74k Fire damage to all players within 10 yards.
  • Lava Pools - Formed from unbroken shards, lava pools inflict 165k Fire damage every 1s to players standing within the pool. Additionally every lava pool created inflicts a stack of rising heat onto players.
    • Rising Heat - As laval pillars consume the space, heat rises inflicting 2k Fire damage every 1s for the duration of the encounter, stacks.
  • Ashwalker Assassin (heroic) - Conjured from smoke and ash, these servants of Wrathion stalk the players during Stage Two.
    • Smoke Shroud - Shrouded in smoke, the assassin fades from view. Revealing the assassin from stealth or inflicting damage disperses the shroud from the minion.
    • Noxious Choke - While shrouded, Wrathion’s minions stun their victims for 10s.
    • Dark Ambush - While shrouded, Wrathion’s minions will strike from the shadows inflicting 393k Shadow damage to their current target.
